Services / SAS Analytics

SAS consulting: analytics, forecasting and AI that you can explain and audit.

We install, upgrade, migrate and support SAS environments, build the models that run on them and connect SAS to the rest of your data, for teams in life sciences, government, manufacturing and retail who have to show how every result was reached.

SAS expertise

SAS environments set up, moved and kept running

SAS covers the whole path from raw data to a decision: data management, statistics, machine learning, forecasting and reporting, with the logging and access controls that regulated work needs. We look after that platform for you. We install and upgrade SAS 9.4 and SAS Viya, administer the servers and the users, move workloads off ageing hardware, and keep the jobs your teams depend on running on schedule.

We also build on it: the data preparation, the models and the reports, delivered to the people who act on them rather than left in a programmer’s folder.

What we do

  • SAS 9.4 and SAS Viya installation, upgrades and administration
  • Migration from older SAS releases and ageing servers to SAS Viya
  • SAS Grid set up and tuned for heavy batch and parallel work
  • Forecasting, risk and quality models, documented for review
  • SAS connected to your databases and cloud data platforms

Customer examples

The kind of SAS work we take on

Our SAS projects are usually about scale, scrutiny or age: more data than the current set-up can handle, results that an auditor or a regulator will question, or a platform that has outgrown the hardware it runs on. Four examples, described without client names.

What we do

  • Fraud detection and marketing analytics for a financial firm on SAS Grid and SAS Viya, scoring customer data as it arrives
  • Claims analytics with government agencies, finding patterns of healthcare fraud across very large claim volumes
  • Forecasting and customer behavior models for a retailer, moved from legacy servers to a cloud-native platform
  • Predictive maintenance for a manufacturer, built on sensor data analyzed as it streams in

Use cases

What organizations use SAS analytics for

SAS is at its best where a model’s output becomes a decision someone must justify: who gets credit, which claim is investigated, how much stock to order. These are the use cases we see most often.

What we do

  • Customer intelligence: segmentation, churn prediction and campaign optimization
  • Risk management: credit scoring, stress testing and regulatory reporting
  • Healthcare analytics: population health, patient outcome prediction and clinical trial analysis
  • Supply chain: inventory forecasting, logistics planning and supplier risk
  • Fraud and security: real-time anomaly detection, identity fraud and anti-money laundering
  • Public sector: program effectiveness and citizen engagement analytics

How SAS uses AI

AI inside the analytics platform, with the controls around it

SAS builds machine learning and AI into the same platform as its statistics, so a team can move from describing what happened to predicting what will happen and recommending what to do, without copying the data somewhere else. What matters in regulated work is that a model can be explained: SAS records how each model was built, tracks its versions and shows which inputs drove a result.

In practice that means recommendation and pricing models in retail, patient risk prediction in healthcare, anti-money laundering and credit scoring in finance, visual inspection and predictive maintenance in manufacturing, and document processing in the public sector.

What we do

  • Machine learning and deep learning for fraud, risk and forecasting
  • Natural language processing to classify documents and read sentiment
  • Computer vision for defect detection and medical images
  • Model explainability, governance and audit trails
  • AutoML in SAS Viya to speed up model building

Why SAS

When SAS is the right platform, and when it is not

SAS earns its place where analytics has to be rigorous, repeatable and defensible, and where an organization already has years of validated SAS code and the people who wrote it. It runs in the cloud through SAS Viya, scales to large workloads, and works alongside Python, R and the major cloud platforms rather than instead of them.

We will also tell you when part of the work belongs elsewhere: a dashboard that fits your existing BI tool, or a pipeline that fits your data platform. Our Data Analytics practice covers that side.

SAS Viya and SAS Grid

SAS Viya and SAS Grid, and moving from one to the other

SAS Grid spreads SAS jobs across a cluster of servers, balancing the load and keeping work running when a server fails; it is how many organizations run heavy SAS 9.4 workloads today. SAS Viya is the cloud-native platform: it runs in containers on Kubernetes, in your cloud account or your data center, and scales up and down with the work.

Many SAS estates are now moving from the first to the second. We inventory the code, the data connections and the schedules, move them in waves, run old and new side by side, and compare the outputs before anything is switched off.

What we do

  • SAS Grid Manager set up, tuned and supported
  • SAS Viya deployed in the cloud or on premises
  • Code, data and schedule inventory before a migration
  • Side-by-side runs with output comparison before cutover

Industry solutions

SAS for life sciences, government, manufacturing and retail

SAS is strongest where decisions must be explained and audited. These are the industries we focus on, each with its own page of use cases and the SAS products that serve them: life sciences and healthcare, federal and state government and manufacturing and retail.

What we do

  • Life sciences and healthcare: clinical trials, regulatory submissions, drug safety and real-world evidence
  • Federal and state government: fraud detection, public health surveillance and program performance
  • Manufacturing and retail: predictive maintenance, demand forecasting, pricing and personalization

Questions

Questions about SAS

What does SAS consulting from Princeton IT Services cover?

Everything from the platform to the result: installing, upgrading and administering SAS 9.4 and SAS Viya, moving workloads to new infrastructure, tuning SAS Grid, and building the data preparation, models and reports that run on SAS. We also connect SAS to your databases and cloud data platforms, so it works with the rest of your data.

Should we move from SAS 9.4 to SAS Viya?

Often, but not all at once. SAS Viya runs in containers in the cloud or your data center and scales with the work, which suits organizations whose SAS 9.4 servers are ageing or overloaded. We start with an inventory of your code, data connections and schedules, then move them in waves and compare the outputs of the old and new platforms before anything is switched off.

Can SAS work with Python, R and our cloud data platform?

Yes. SAS Viya works with Python and R: data scientists can call SAS from their own notebooks, and open-source models can be managed next to SAS ones. SAS also reads from and writes to the common databases and cloud data platforms, and we set up those connections.

Do you support SAS Grid?

Yes. We set up, tune and support SAS Grid Manager for heavy batch and parallel workloads on SAS 9.4, and plan the move to SAS Viya when the time comes, running both side by side while the work moves over.

Which industries do you work with on SAS?

Mostly life sciences and healthcare, federal and state government, manufacturing and retail, where results have to be explained and audited. Each has its own page with the use cases and the SAS products we work with.

How do we start?

Use the form on this page to tell us what you are working on: a migration, a model, an upgrade or a question about your SAS estate. Someone who does SAS work will reply. If you would rather talk it through first, book a call.
