SAS for manufacturing and retail: maintenance, forecasts, prices and customers.

Manufacturers and retailers use SAS to keep machines running, forecast demand, set prices and understand their customers. We set up and run SAS, build the models, and connect them to the systems that act on the results.

Why SAS here

From sensor and sales data to the next decision

Factories and stores produce a constant stream of data: machine sensors, production lines, point-of-sale systems, loyalty programs, websites and supply chains. SAS turns that stream into predictions people can act on: which machine needs attention, how much to make or order, what price to charge and which offer to show.

The value comes from closing the loop. A forecast has to reach the planning system and a failure prediction the maintenance schedule, rather than a report nobody opens.

Use cases

Where we apply SAS in manufacturing and retail

These are the six use cases we are asked about most, from the factory floor to the checkout.

What we do

  • Predictive maintenance: sensor data watched for anomalies, so failures are caught before they stop a line
  • Demand forecasting: sales history, seasonality and market trends combined to cut stockouts and excess inventory
  • Price optimization: competitor prices, demand and stock levels weighed to set prices that protect margin
  • Customer segmentation and personalization: behavior and purchases used to tailor offers across channels
  • Sustainable manufacturing: energy use, waste and emissions measured alongside output
  • Omnichannel analytics: online and in-store journeys joined into one view of the customer

SAS products

The SAS products we work with

We install and configure these, connect them to your plant, store and commerce data, and build the models on top.

What we do

  • SAS Visual Forecasting, for automated forecasts across many products and locations
  • SAS demand and supply chain planning, for production plans, inventory and logistics
  • SAS Customer Intelligence 360, for segmentation, campaigns and engagement across channels
  • SAS Event Stream Processing, for analyzing sensor data as it arrives
  • SAS quality analytics, for monitoring production and finding the root cause of defects

How we work

Models connected to the systems that act on them

We start from the decision and work back: which system needs the result, how often, and in what form. Then we build the model in SAS, connect it to that system through its API or a scheduled feed, and check whether the decisions it informs get better.

Our systems integration team does the connecting, so the forecast lands in your ERP or planning tool and the offer in your marketing platform without anyone retyping it.

What we do

  • The decision the model serves agreed first
  • Results delivered into ERP, planning and marketing systems
  • Forecast accuracy and model drift monitored
  • SAS connected to your cloud data platform

Questions

Common questions

Can SAS predict machine failures from our sensor data?

Yes. SAS can analyze sensor readings as they stream in, learn what normal looks like for each machine, and flag the readings that usually come before a failure, so maintenance can be planned instead of rushed. We connect the sensor data, build the models and send the alerts to your maintenance system.

How does SAS improve demand forecasting?

SAS forecasts each product and location from its sales history, seasonality, promotions and other drivers, chooses a model for each series automatically, and lets planners review and adjust the result. The forecasts can then feed your planning and ordering systems directly.

Can SAS personalize offers across our online and in-store channels?

Yes. SAS Customer Intelligence 360 segments customers by their behavior and purchases and runs campaigns across channels. We connect it to your commerce, loyalty and marketing systems, so the same view of a customer is used everywhere.

How do we start?

Use the form on this page to tell us about your SAS environment and the work in front of you. Someone who works on SAS projects will reply. If you would rather talk it through first, book a call.
