A Brief Tutorial of Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS)

Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) is a managed database service provided by amazon web services (AWS). Several different database engines are supported by Amazon RDS for storing and organising data. The maintenance of relational databases and related duties, such as data transfer, backup, recovery, and patching, is also facilitated by this.

In the cloud, relational databases may be easily deployed and maintained thanks to Amazon RDS. Setting up, running, managing, and scaling a relational instance of a cloud database are all done by a cloud administrator using Amazon RDS. Want to know this procedure works? Given below is an overview of the Amazon RDS tutorial.

Create Amazon RDS

The procedures to create an AWS RDS instance are as follows:

  1. Sign in to the AWS Management Console.
  2. Switch on the RDS interface.
  3. Select the area where you want to build your instance in the upper-right corner.
  4. Select “Databases” in the navigation pane.
  5. Select “Create database.”
  6. Select “Standard create,” then click MySQL (or the database which you wish to create an RDS database instance).

Here is the reference to AWS RDS page with more details – Creating an Amazon RDS DB instance – Amazon Relational Database Service.

Connect to Amazon RDS

The following describes how to get configuration for databases on Amazon RDS:

  1. Visit the AWS Management Console.
  2. Click RDS under “Database services.”
  3. Choose Instances’.
  4. Select the database to which you wish to link Metabase.
  5. Obtain the data you require to link Metabase to your RDS, as in:
    • Host name- This is listed as the Endpoint parameter.
    • Port- Look under Security and Network for the port parameter.
    • Username- Under Configuration Details, you may find this.
    • The database name- Under Configuration Details, you may find this.
    • Password- Request the password from your database administrator.

Organizations can use Amazon RDS to manage relational databases and perform operations like migration, backup, recovery, and patching. Although it can be a little tricky so for the smooth adoption of AWS RDS and to avail of its full benefits like Replication, high-performance storage, and failure detection, you must consult an expert.
