Top Features of AWS RDS that You Need to Know: Part 2

To say that Amazon Relational Database Service (AWS RDS) has fundamentally altered the functioning of a technology firm is not an understatement. Using AWS RDS instead of maintaining their own relational database has clear benefits for database developers. Currently, Amazon RDS offers five database engines: MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Amazon Aurora. In the prequel article, we discuss some primary features of AWS RDS. This blog covers the remaining important features of AWS RDS you need to know.

Features of AWS RDS; Part 2.

Below are some of the main features offered by the Amazon Relational Database Service (AWS RDS):

Availability

The ability to access data stored in the cloud at any time and from any location is essential. Through the use of a function called Multi-AZ, which keeps a backup copy of your data in a different location, Amazon RDS is able to offer high availability.

Enhanced Monitoring

Amazon Relational Database Service (AWS RDS) offers a variety of ways to control the automation of numerous DBA tasks and has a wide range of tools for performing in-depth system performance monitoring.

Simple Administration

Setting up an RDS database is simple and hassle-free. You don’t need to install the database software because RDS architecture is automatically provisioned as a cloud-based service. You can forget about administrative responsibilities like software patching and backups once your RDS database is up and running since AWS will take care of everything.

Security

With the use of data encryption, Amazon Relational Database Service (AWS RDS) enables you to protect your database application. It is controlled by the AWS Key Management Service and can be encrypted using the keys. It also offers broad security measures like IAM (Identity and Access Management). Moreover, you may isolate a specific database instance and connect to infrastructure through an encrypted VPN due to Amazon VPC (Virtual Private Cloud).

Maintenance

AWS is in charge of setting up the infrastructure, as well as carrying out the necessary maintenance and management activities, just like any other managed service in the cloud. Only building, managing, and configuring Amazon RDS are the customer’s duties.

Conclusion

One of the crucial AWS platform services is Amazon Relational Database Service (AWS RDS), which leverages SSDs to increase IO throughput across all of its database services.

Oracle from on-premises to Amazon RDS for a national nonprofit

The nonprofit's on-premises Oracle database had become hard to maintain and scale. We planned the move with automated workflows and validation tests, migrated to Amazon RDS for Oracle with minimal disruption and left a repeatable process for future changes.
