Mobile app development for iOS and Android

A mobile app earns its place when people need to work away from a desk: scanning, photographing, checking in, approving on the move or working with no signal. We design and build iOS and Android apps for customers and staff, connected to the same back end as your web systems, so every user sees the same data.

When an app makes sense

Is a mobile app the right answer?

Not every idea needs an app in the app stores. A well-built web application works on a phone, and nobody has to install it. A native app is worth it when people need the camera or a scanner, notifications, location, offline working, or a fast, polished experience they open every day. We start by asking who will use it, where and how often, and recommend the simplest option that works: a mobile-friendly web application, a hybrid app or a native one.

What we do

  • Audience and use-case review
  • Web, hybrid or native: a clear recommendation
  • Prototypes tested on real phones
  • A release plan for both app stores

Platforms

iOS, Android, or both from one code base

iOS and Android are the two platforms that matter for most audiences, and their users expect different things. We build native apps in Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android when performance or a device feature demands it, and cross-platform apps in React Native when one code base for both platforms is the better trade, which it often is for business apps. For staff who work on Windows laptops and tablets, the same back end can serve a desktop or web client.

What we do

  • Native iOS apps in Swift
  • Native Android apps in Kotlin
  • Cross-platform apps in React Native
  • Companion apps for existing web applications

In practice

A companion app for event lead capture

Business Card Intelligence, our own product, turns business cards, PDFs and QR codes scanned at an event into deduplicated leads, with AI-drafted follow-ups that send from the user's own Outlook. It is a web application on Azure with a mobile companion app, now in beta. That pairing is the one we recommend for most business apps: one back end that holds the data and the rules, with a web and a mobile front end on top.

Design

Designed with the people who will use it

Our consultants and developers work one-on-one with you and with real users to understand the business need, the habits of the people who will use the app and the benefit it should bring. We design for thumbs and short attention: the main task in as few taps as possible, readable outdoors, usable with one hand, and accessible to people who use larger text or a screen reader. Prototypes are tested on real phones before development begins.

What we do

  • User research and journey mapping
  • Interface design that follows iOS and Android conventions
  • Accessibility from the first screen
  • Prototypes tested on real devices

Build and release

Secure, tested and published to the stores

Mobile apps carry company data in people's pockets, so security is part of the design: staff sign in with their company accounts, data is encrypted on the device, nothing sensitive is kept longer than needed, and access can be revoked when a phone is lost. Each build is tested automatically and on a range of devices before release. We handle the submission to the Apple App Store and Google Play, or private distribution for apps only your staff use.

What we do

  • Company sign-in and on-device encryption
  • Offline working and sync
  • Automated and on-device testing
  • App Store, Google Play and private distribution

After release

Updates for every new phone and operating system

Apple and Google release new versions of their operating systems every year, and an app that is not maintained soon breaks. After release we monitor crashes and reviews, keep the app current with each operating system update, and work through new features with you, on the same back end as your web systems.

Questions

Common questions

Should we build a native app or a cross-platform app?

For most business apps, a cross-platform app in React Native gives you iOS and Android from one code base to build and maintain. Native development in Swift and Kotlin is the better choice when the app depends on demanding graphics, heavy use of device features or the very best performance.

Can the app work offline?

Yes. We design apps that keep working without a signal, store what users capture securely on the device, and sync it when the connection returns, with clear rules for what happens when two people change the same record.

Can a mobile app connect to our existing systems?

Yes. The app talks to a back end through secure APIs, and that back end connects to your ERP, CRM, Microsoft 365 or other systems, so the app itself never needs direct access to them.

Do you publish the app to the App Store and Google Play?

Yes. We prepare the store listings and handle the submission and review. For apps only your staff use, we can distribute them privately through your device management instead.
