Sybase to Oracle with zero downtime for an e-discovery company

Sybase was holding back a platform that processes large volumes of legal data. We converted the schema, kept both databases in sync with continuous replication, validated the data and switched over without interrupting the business.

Modernizing Database Infrastructure While Ensuring Business Continuity

A leading e-discovery company was operating a critical database environment on Sybase that supported business applications and high-volume data processing workflows. As the organization continued to grow, limitations around scalability, platform flexibility, and long-term database support created the need for a modern database platform that could support future business demands without impacting ongoing operations.

Princeton IT Services partnered with the client to execute a heterogeneous database migration from Sybase to Oracle Database with zero downtime. Through detailed assessment, migration planning, schema conversion, data synchronization, and rigorous validation, our team enabled a seamless transition to Oracle while maintaining application availability and ensuring data consistency throughout the migration process.

The migration provided significant business and technical advantages, including improved database performance, enhanced scalability, stronger reliability, and a modern platform aligned with the client’s long-term technology strategy. By implementing a carefully planned migration approach with continuous data replication and controlled cutover procedures, Princeton IT Services minimized operational risk and eliminated disruption to critical business workflows.

This successful transformation allowed the client to move away from legacy Sybase infrastructure and adopt a robust Oracle database environment without compromising availability or user experience. The project demonstrates Princeton IT Services’ expertise in executing complex heterogeneous database migrations through strategic planning, proven methodologies, and deep database modernization capabilities.

Zero-downtime move of a 30 TB Oracle database for a global retail bank

The bank's transaction database served thousands of users around the clock. We built the new Oracle 12c RAC platform on IBM AIX alongside the old Solaris system, kept the two in sync with Oracle GoldenGate, tested everything and switched over with no downtime and no data loss.
