Zero Downtime Migration

Enabling Business Continuity with Oracle GoldenGate

One of the world’s largest retail banks and a leading global financial services provider needed to modernize a mission-critical 30 TB Oracle database by migrating from Oracle 10g RAC on Solaris to Oracle 12c RAC on IBM AIX. With thousands of users and high-volume financial transactions occurring around the clock, even a brief outage could have impacted business operations, customer services, and regulatory compliance. The client required a migration strategy that would eliminate downtime while ensuring complete data integrity throughout the transition.

Princeton IT Services designed and implemented a comprehensive Oracle GoldenGate replication solution that enabled continuous synchronization between the source and target environments during the migration process. Through detailed planning, rigorous testing, and a phased execution strategy, our team ensured that production workloads continued uninterrupted while the new Oracle 12c RAC environment was built, synchronized, and validated. Once both environments were fully aligned, the final cutover was completed seamlessly with virtually no impact on end users.

The successful migration allowed the client to modernize its database infrastructure, improve platform performance, and leverage the enhanced capabilities of Oracle Database 12c without disrupting critical banking operations. By adopting a zero-downtime migration approach, the organization significantly reduced project risk, maintained business continuity, and accelerated its infrastructure modernization initiatives.

This case study demonstrates how Princeton IT Services leverages Oracle GoldenGate and proven migration methodologies to help enterprises execute complex database upgrades and platform migrations with minimal risk, zero data loss, and uninterrupted business operations.
