Job Title: Software Developer – MS Access Applications

Job Overview:

We are seeking a talented and proactive Software Developer to join our team, primarily responsible for supporting and maintaining MS Access Applications. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in modernizing existing MS Access Database applications, managing data extracts and reporting, and ensuring the seamless operation of enterprise data systems. This position requires a strong technical background, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

MS Access Application Support:

  • Provide primary support for existing MS Access Applications, resolving issues and ensuring smooth functionality.
  • Collaborate with end-users to understand requirements and implement enhancements to existing applications.

Modernization of MS Access Database:

  • Assist in the modernization of MS Access Database applications, migrating them to other technologies such as Oracle, MS SQL, and Java.
  • Work on optimizing and improving application performance during the migration process.

Data Extracts and Reporting:

  • Manage and develop data extracts and reporting solutions to meet business needs.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy in reporting by implementing robust data extraction processes.

System Testing and Development:

  • Perform system testing, develop testing plans, and conduct training sessions for end-users.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of large enterprise data systems and applications.

Business and Technical Design:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and provide technical solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Determine optimum solutions and contribute to the design phase of projects.

Implementation of NYS SFS Business Processes:

  • Implement NYS SFS business processes and transaction files.
  • Remediate Microsoft Access systems per business requirements and compliance standards.

Technical Troubleshooting:

  • Address complex technical issues that span enterprise systems and multiple data sources, ensuring rapid resolution.
  • Collaborate with other technical teams to resolve inter-system dependencies.

Automation and DevOps:

  • Automate development activities using tools such as Jenkins, PowerShell, and other DevOps utilities.
  • Streamline and enhance the development process for increased efficiency.

Incident and Change Management:

  • Utilize a ticketing system to track and manage incidents, service requests, problems, changes, and release/deployment activities.
  • Ensure compliance with established change management processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience in supporting and maintaining MS Access Applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Oracle, MS SQL, and Java for database modernization.
  • Experience in data extracts, reporting, and large enterprise data systems.
  • Knowledge of NYS SFS business processes is a plus.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and DevOps practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Position Requested Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 84 months (7 years) of hands-on experience in developing and supporting Microsoft Access databases/applications.
  • Minimum of 84 months (7 years) of experience in developing and supporting Oracle databases.
  • Minimum of 84 months (7 years) of experience in developing and supporting Microsoft SQL databases.
  • Minimum of 84 months (7 years) of experience with database scripting languages, including but not limited to SQL and PL/SQL.
  • Minimum of 84 months (7 years) of experience in writing database triggers, stored procedures, packages, and functions.
  • Minimum of 12 months (1 year) of experience assisting and supporting the use of fillable forms, such as Adobe LifeCycle and/or Adobe Sign.
